They make up one of the earliest dynasties in Chinese history (1600 BC – 1046 BC) and are a playable civilization in Age of Empires. The Shang are strictly an economic civilization, but are also effective in defensive strategies, their cheap villagers make them a fast civilization. The civilization is historically based on the early Shang/Zhou dynasties in ancient China. In Age of Empires II and Age of Empires III, they are simply known as the Chinese instead of having their dynasties as their title in the game. Civilization Bonuses Villagers cost 35 instead of 50 Food (40 in 1.0a patch). All walls have double the amount of hit points.
